Installation Instructions For Reserve Storage Loop with no splice closure (or future splice point) or with in-line/through splice type closure installed.

1. Dead-end the main cable in each direction at the designated pole leaving a surplus cable loop of sufficient length to reach and enter the splice vehicle.

2. Install in-line splice closure (if required) and attach the appropriate hardware from the Splice Closure Mounting Kit. (Contact manufacturer for appropriate kit.) Note: The splice closure should be positioned at a point along the cable loop which will permit attachment of the closure directly to a dead-end or a pole mounted extension arm. Raise the splice closure to the attachment height of the cable and mount to the dead-end or extension arm.

3. Attach one half of the cable support pole bracket to the pole at the appropriate attachment height. (Six to twelve inches below the main cable run.)

4. Raise the mid-point of the surplus cable loop to the attachment height on the pole and position it into the lower conduit of the pole bracket. Position the two cable end sections which exit the dead-end hardware into the upper two conduits of the pole bracket and secure the outer cover.

5. Using approved cable ties, secure one cable loop section to the main cable run, working away from the pole toward where the OPTI-LOOP cable support rack is to be installed. Install cable ties approximately every two to three feet beginning at the dead end and ending with enough loop remaining to install the cable support rack.

6. Install the OPTI-LOOP cable support rack:

7. Assemble the two halves of the cable protection sleeve and position it between the mounting tabs of the cable support rack.

8. Install the assembly bolts and nuts at the support rack mounting tab locations only. Do not tighten bolts so that the cable protection sleeve halves may be separated enough to fit over the cable.

9. Separate the two halves of the cable protection sleeve and snap the cable protection sleeve over the main cable. Install, but do not tighten, the remaining assembly bolts and nuts.

10. Place the end cable loop into the support rack channel and secure with cable ties.

11. Adjust the position of the cable support rack to remove any slack cable. Insert an inner sleeve grommet into each end of the cable protection sleeve until it is flush. Align the slit opening in the inner sleeve grommet with the upper mating surfaces of the cable protection sleeve and tighten all mounting bolts

Note: Do not insert the inner grommets further than flush with the ends of the cable protection sleeve.

Installation Instructions For Reserve Storage Loop Using Butt-Splice Type Closure With Double Loop Configuration.

1. Dead-end the main cable in each direction at the designated pole leaving the desired length surplus loop of cable.

2. Cut the cable for installation of the butt-splice type closure at a point approximately ten feet from the center point of the surplus loop creating one short section and one long section of cable making sure that the short end section of cable is of sufficient length to reach and enter the splice vehicle. Mark the short section of cable in a manner such that it is easily distinguished from the long section.

Caution: If the cable is cut less than eight to ten feet from the center point of the surplus loop, the double wrap configuration cannot be accomplished and a third support rack will be required to complete the surplus loop installation.

3. Create the butt-splice and install the splice closure. Install the appropriate mounting hardware from the Splice Closure Mounting Kit onto the splice closure. (Contact manufacturer for appropriate kit.)

4. On the side of the pole having the short cable section, install the splice closure to the main cable run approximately three feet from the center of the pole to the nearest end of the splice closure. Attach the splice closure directly to the dead-end where possible, or to a fiberglass extension arm if necessary.

Caution: The splice closure must always be mounted on the side of the pole opposite the origin of the short cable end section and such that the two cable sections which exit the butt-splice exit in a direction away from the pole.

5. Beginning at the splice closure and working away from the pole, attach both cable end sections which exit the splice closure to the main cable run using approved cable ties. Continue placing cable ties approximately every two to three feet until the location of the first cable support rack is reached. This location will be determined by the length limitation of the short cable end section. Install the special, double loop cable support rack at this location. (Note: The Aluminum Version will have one cable support rack with a special, wider cable channel. The Plastic Version will have a special cable channel insert to be used at this location. See standard installation data for installation details for aluminum or plastic support rack.)

6. After the double-wrap cable support rack is in place and both cable loop sections are secured into the cable support rack channel with cable ties, attach the return runs of cable back to the pole using cable ties approximately every two to three feet apart.

7. Install a cable support pole bracket to the pole at the appropriate height and secure the three cable sections which pass the pole.

8. A short loop of cable should now remain on the side of the pole opposite the splice closure. Continue to tie-wrap the two cable sections to the main cable run until the location of the second cable support rack is reached. Install the second cable support rack to the dead-end or directly to the cable using the appropriate cable protection sleeve and secure the remaining end loop of cable to the support rack channel. Note that all adjustments to eliminate slack in the surplus cable loop must be made at this location.

Installation Instructions For Reserve Storage Loop Using Butt-Splice Type Closure With Third Opti-Loop Application

1. Dead-end the main cable in each direction at the designated pole leaving the desired length surplus loop of cable.

2. Create the butt-splice in the cable and install the splice closure.

3. Using the appropriate hardware from the Universal Splice Closure Mounting Kit, mount the splice closure to one dead-end insuring that the direction of the cable exiting the splice closure is away from the pole.

4. Using cable ties, route the leg of the cable loop which originates on the opposite side of the pole from the splice closure along the main cable route, passing the splice closure, and around the first cable rack support. Then continue to route the cable back to the splice closure location.

5. Adjust the first cable rack location to remove any slack in the cable between the pole and the splice closure.

6. Route the remaining leg of cable exiting the splice closure along the main cable route away from the pole and around the second cable support rack located between the first rack and the splice closure. Then, continue to route the cable back, past the splice closure and to the pole location.

7. Install the three cable sections which pass the pole into a Pole Mounted Cable Support Bracket and secure the bracket cover. This leaves a remaining loop of surplus cable exiting the pole location to the opposite direction from that of the loops formed by the first and second cable support racks.

8. Using cable ties, route the remaining loop section along the main cable route. At the end of the loop, install the third cable support rack and route the loop end around same.

9. Adjust the third cable support rack location to remove any slack and install additional cable ties as required to assure that the entire surplus loop installation is secure.
